ALTHOUGH i had a 355 with a big solid lift cam, and brodix 200race rite heads that was 11.5-1. changed the bottom end to a 383, dropped the compression to 8.5-1 (for procharger) and went to solid roller. the 383 would KILL the 355 motor for motor. in other words the low compression 383 would kill the higher compression 355. both can run well.The 383 is meant to be a higher compression engine, using either the 5.7" or 6.0" rods. 400 uses a 5.5" rod. The less oversquare you have in an engine, the more torque that's produced.
